Important Preliminary Information for Virtual Fair Judging

The judging sessions will be run by Nokia Bell Labs, using the BlueJeans Meetings app. It is possible to do this through a browser, but if you wish, you can install the app on the device you plan to use. Go to https://www.bluejeans.com/downloads to download and install the app. It is free. Based on experience on April 17, when some folks had difficulty using BlueJeans via their browser, we would strongly encourage you to download the app.

The invite emails will be sent from a reply address at either "nokia.com" or "nokia-bell-labs.com," We will put the URLs for the sessions on the Entry Status page as well, but probably not until shortly before the judging. Note that you will get a separate email for each scheduled interview.

The schedule will be posted on your Entry Status page. The times that will be given there will be nominal interview times. We want you to sign in for each interview 5 minutes before the scheduled time, but not earlier than that. The session administrator will keep your line muted until the judges are ready.

Prejudging TEST: In addition to the signin times mentioned above, we ask each student to sign into the FIRST interview on their judging schedule at 6:10 p.m. to test their audio and video connections. Students will sign off of these test sessions by 6:20.

Each project will be scheduled for a maximum of 4 interview slots, and no two of those will be for consecutive slots.

Students should set up for the session in a private room with no background activity.

You will be required to use a webcam

You cannot use speakerphone. This means you will need to use a headset.

The time allotted for each interview will be 15 minutes. You should plan your own presentation to last NO MORE THAN 10 MINUTES, to allow adequate time for questions. The 15 minute allocation is a hard stop. Interviews will not be allowed to run over.

LIMIT YOUR BACKGROUND MATERIAL: Do not spend more than 2 minutes on it. It is essential that you allow enough time to discuss your methods and results.
